THE North West Regional Director for Public Health, Dr Ruth Hussey, says she is delighted that NHS North West is to sponsor All Together Now!
Dr Hussey said:
“NHS North West is the strategic health authority for the region. Covering the biggest geographical area of the 10 English SHAs, our role is to oversee health and healthcare services for the people of the North West - all seven million of them!
“We aim to make sure that everyone who needs health services in our region gets the best care and
“treatment possible.
“We also want to improve the health of all our communities.
“We are very ambitious and have set our sights high - we believe that people in the North West deserve nothing less that the best.
“Some people who live in the North West have the worst health in the country.
“People are generally living longer - but if you live in our region you are more likely to die early from heart disease, stroke or cancer than anywhere else in the England.
“Poor health is closely linked to poverty and 23% of children in the North West are officially classed as living in poverty; not a very good start in life for them.
“The one thing that we can do that will transform health and healthcare for our communities is for the NHS to take a more active role in promoting good health and preventing ill-health, working in partnership with local government and other organisations.
“Over the next year, we hope to keep you up-to-date with what is happening in the NHS; and we also want to hear from you.
“We'd like to know if there are any topics that you would like us to cover in the future.”
